Important Régence Period Bombe Commode in Violetwood Veneer
France, early 18th century
This impressive bombe-form commode opens with five drawers arranged in three tiers, each separated by dark patinated brass mouldings.
The pinched side stiles rest on four gently curved legs, embodying the refined silhouette typical of the Regence style.
The gilt bronze mounts — including handles, escutcheons, corner ornaments, aprons, and sabots — are richly detailed with female masks, blowing cherubs, rocaille scrolls, and stylised foliage.
It is topped with a moulded red Languedoc marble, adding a stately finish to the piece.
