Sculpture of Hebe, Goddess of Youth and Newlyweds
Marble
Italy, circa 1860
A graceful Neoclassical marble sculpture of Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth and cupbearer to the gods, traditionally associated with eternal vitality and bridal purity.
She stands in contrapposto, wearing a draped antique-style gown, her serene gaze directed forward. Her hair is styled in a chignon, held by a delicate diadem. In her left hand, she offers a cup, while her right hand holds a jug, resting naturally along her body.
Set on an octagonal base, a characteristic feature of mid-19th-century Neoclassical sculpture.
