Carved and Giltwood Console Table
Louis XV period, France, circa 1740–1760
Dimensions: H. 79 cm – W. 72 cm – D. 41 cm
A graceful Louis XV console table in carved and giltwood, with an openwork frieze featuring shells, scrolling foliage, and rocaille ornamentation.
Supported by four finely carved cabriole legs, this console is a refined expression of the French Rococo style.
The top is made of Flemish red marble (marbre rouge des Flandres), sculpted with a beak-shaped (bec de corbin) edge, echoing the curves of the base.
An elegant example of mid-18th-century decorative furniture, combining lightness and elaborate carving.
