Giltwood Console Table with Rocaille Carving

Giltwood Console Table with Rocaille Carving

Louis XV period, France, circa 1740

Carved and gilded wood, red veined marble top

An impressive Louis XV wall console, richly carved in deep Rococo relief, with a pierced apron adorned with scrolls, acanthus leaves, and shell motifs, all centred by a bold floral cartouche.

The sweeping cabriole legs are united by a scrolling stretcher, adding structural grace and ornamental richness.

The top is of veined red marble, likely Griotte or Rouge des Flandres, shaped with ogee-moulded edges.

A fine example of French 18th-century ornamental furniture, reflecting the theatricality and luxury of Rococo interiors.
