This majestic carved marble basin, executed in richly veined yellow Siena marble, reflects the Classical and Baroque aesthetic ideals of the 19th century. The oval bowl is adorned with fluted gadroons, bold lion mascarons, and rests on a sculptural pedestal with four lion’s paws, echoing Roman imperial stonework and Baroque grandeur.

Works of this type were inspired by ancient Roman garden urns and Baroque fountains, frequently installed in palatial interiors, atria, or formal gardens.
